Rutherfordton's annual MayFest is held the first Saturday of May every year. It's an all day event starting at 8:00 AM with the Gears and Gables ride and filled with a variety of food, arts & crafts, live music, activities for kids and much more. So bring the family, gather your friends or just come yourself to enjoy the festival and experience our "small town friendliness!"
Because this is Rutherfordton's 225th Anniversary and in conjuction with MayFest there will be a gold panning area beside the Woodrow Jones Building. Nanny Lloyd, owner of Thermal City Gold Mine, will be on hand with stories of the challenges of mining and the role of gold in our community. The Bechtler House, which is currently a mini museum on W 6th Street (across from the historical St John's Episcopal Church) will be open from 9 - 5. And storyteller and Rutherfordton's own Dot Lane will be telling stories on the Carrier Houses' porch.
